Pinnacol Assurance named John O’Donnell president and CEO. He will join the company Feb. 28.
O’Donnell will succeed Phil Kalin, who is retiring on March 31.
O’Donnell has 30 years of leadership experience. He most recently was an executive vice president at Allstate, serving as the president of Western Territory.
O’Donnell also served in leadership positions at GMAC, the Walt Disney Co. and Goldman Sachs.
Pinnacol is Colorado’s largest workers’ compensation carrier with roughly 55,000 businesses insured, and an estimated 1 million Colorado workers covered.
Covered California’s Board of Directors appointed Jessica Altman chief executive officer. Altman currently serves as commissioner of the Pennsylvania Insurance Department. The state’s governor announced that Altman would resign her position Feb. 25
Altman’s appointment follows the September 2021 announcement that Peter V. Lee, Covered California’s first executive director, would be leaving after more than a decade of leading the marketplace.
Covered California is the state’s health insurance marketplace. Covered California is an independent part of the state government and is overseen by a five-member board appointed by the governor and the state Legislature.
