The family of an 87-year-old woman who died after she was hit by the automatic front doors of a Portland, Ore. hotel has filed a $2.7 million lawsuit against the hotel.
The Oregonian/OregonLive reported that the lawsuit filed in Multnomah County Circuit Court says the doors suddenly started sliding and struck June Sylvia Cole, causing her to fall and hit her head on the concrete. Cole, who was a hotel guest from Georgia, was taken to a hospital and died hours later.
Cole’s family claims the doors were defective. They blame the Ramada hotel for allegedly failing to provide a waiting area for guests away from the doors and for not assisting the elderly woman on her way out.
The hotel didn’t immediately return a call seeking comment.
