Nearly 50 Cut Bank residents have filed a lawsuit alleging their properties have been polluted by petroleum from a crude oil transportation and storage facility on the eastern edge of the city.
The Great Falls Tribune reported the lawsuit was filed in U.S. District Court in Great Falls on Sept. 6 on behalf of 46 property owners that say petroleum discharged from the Tank Hill storage facility has contaminated soils and water, reduced property values and exposed owners to health risks.
The lawsuit names five companies that operated and either owned or leased the tanks, pipelines, pump stations and related equipment on or near Tank Hill, which has been in operation since the 1930s. It was declared a Superfund site in 1994.
The plaintiffs are seeking compensation, restoration of property damage and punitive damages.
