Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer has signed a declaration of emergency to assist with flood recovery in Apache and Greenlee counties.
A series of powerful monsoon storms passed over the two northeastern Arizona counties on Sept. 13-14.
The storms caused significant flooding and debris flow in the San Francisco and Blue rivers and restricting accessibility and isolating residents in both counties.
Heavy debris and sediment flow also damaged several portions of the Blue River Road, washed out a bridge and severely restricted access for residents and emergency personnel who rely on that route.
The Blue River runs from Alpine in Apache County to the San Francisco River near Clifton in Greenlee County.
Friday’s declaration directs $200,000 from the state’s general fund be made available to the Arizona Division of Emergency Management.
