New figures from Bureau of Labor Statistics show there were 39 workplace deaths in 2012 in Utah 鈥� the same total as the year before.
The preliminary data shows that transportation-related deaths were the most frequent in Utah accounting for 16 of the deaths in 2012. There were seven deaths caused by contact with equipment and seven by violence and other injuries.
Thirty-four of the Utah workers killed were men, with only five of the deaths being women.
Nationally, worker deaths decreased 7 percent in 2012 from the previous year.
Labor statistics show that Utah has seen a significant drop in workplace deaths in the last three years. The state had an average of 60 deaths each year from 1992-2009. In 2010, that dipped to 41.
