Los Angeles, Calif.-based Farmers Insurance named Steven Weinstein general counsel.
Weinstein is the former chairman of the Barger & Wolen law firm. Weinstein is replacing Frank Ceglar, a 36-year veteran of Farmers.
Weinstein will oversee the company’s legal department, including its litigation team, in addition to providing legal guidance to the enterprise and its leadership.
In private practice Weinstein handled insurance regulatory matters, complex business litigation and bad faith litigation. He has represented insurers before a number of departments of insurance across the nation. He was recently appointed as a board member of the California Insurance Guarantee Association by California Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones.
The Farmers Exchanges are three reciprocal insurers (Farmers Insurance Exchange, Fire Insurance Exchange and Truck Insurance Exchange), including their subsidiaries and affiliates, owned by their policyholders. Farmers Group Inc., along with its subsidiaries, manages the non-claims insurance operations of the Farmers Exchanges. Farmers Group, Inc. is wholly owned by the Zurich Insurance Group.
