Montana officials have served the city of Casper and a contractor with notices alleging they failed to fully test for asbestos before demolishing an abandoned house.
The Casper Star-Tribune reported that a notice from the Department of Environmental Quality alleges the city’s contracted inspector failed to sample enough material for asbestos. A laboratory analysis of samples taken by a state inspector in February found 15 percent asbestos in the floor tile and 5 percent asbestos in the tile adhesive.
City Attorney Bill Luben says his office is reviewing the notice, but he doesn’t think the city has liability since contractors were used for the inspection and demolition.
