The federal government is approving Montana’s request for disaster assistance.
Gov. Brian Schweitzer says that he has been notified by the Federal Emergency Management Agency that areas his with flooding since April are now eligible for individual assistance. The help will extend to 19 counties and Indian reservations.
The governor’s office says FEMA assistance can cover emergency home repair, temporary housing, and other issues. Residents must register with FEMA in order to be eligible.
Flooding swept through many Montana towns and counties as unusually heavy spring rains swamped low-lying areas across the state.
