Fourteen homes have been destroyed in Arizona yesterday, after the Monument Fire burning near Sierra Vista went south into neighborhoods. All told, there are six fires burning in Arizona, and five in New Mexico.
As of June 21, the six Arizona fires had burned 774, 183 acres, and destroyed 178 structures, according to the according to the National Interagency Fire Center. The Wallow fire is the state’s largest fire to date, having burned 519,319 acres and 56 percent contained. In New Mexico, the Center said 79,335 acres had burned, and 17 structures had been destroyed.
State Farm, which insures 20 percent of the homeowners market Arizona, said it was too early to estimate insured losses. However, the company has received some claims, mostly for alternative living expenses (ALE). The company has received 69 claims as a result of Arizona’s Wallow fire, and 19 claims as a result of the Monument Fire, but does not have details on the types of claims yet, said company spokeswoman Cheryl Willis-Blakes.
Evacuations remain in effect in some areas.
