The Nevada Assembly has passed a bill to implement a low-cost auto insurance pilot program, with an assessment on motor vehicle liability policies funding the operation of and publicity for the pilot program.

Currently state law requires vehicles have t$15,000 per person and $30,000 for two or more people per accident for bodily injury, and $10,000 per accident in property damage coverage.

would lower the requirement so that a low-cost automobile insurance policy have $10,000 per person for bodily injury or death in any one accident, $20,000 for two or more people per accident, and property damage coverage of $3,000 per accident.

The Commissioner would be responsible for ensuring the rate is sufficient to cover losses incurred under the program.

To qualify for the program, drivers must fall below the federal poverty line and have cars valued at $20,000 or less.
