A Las Vegas neurosurgeon who served as Nevada lieutenant governor has agreed to give up performing operations as part of a state medical malpractice settlement.
Dr. Lonnie Hammargren will keep his medical license under the confidential agreement offered for approval by the Nevada State Board of Medical Examiners.
The malpractice complaint alleged Hammargren mishandled a 2002 brain tumor operation on a 41-year-old female patient at a Las Vegas hospital.
Hammargren denies the malpractice allegation. But he told the Las Vegas Sun he stopped performing surgeries in 2005 and he no longer sees patients.
He was state lieutenant governor from 1995-1999. He is also a former Nevada university regent.
