Safety and construction officials are investigating what caused a crane to buckle and malfunction at MGM Mirage’s CityCenter resort work site in Las Vegas.
The unstable 180-foot crane shut down traffic on the Las Vegas Strip for more than an hour on June 13, 2008. No one was injured.
It was the latest mishap in a series of accidents at the site of the massive casino resort project. Six workers have been killed on the site since construction began 16 months ago.
Federal and state safety inspector have responded by conducting a comprehensive safety review. They were on site when the crane malfunctioned on June 13.
MGM Mirage Inc. spokeswoman Yvette Monet says general contractor Perini Building Co. is reviewing the incident.
