Heritage General Agency, Los Angeles, has hired Sonja Bartmas as senior underwriter/broker. She will report to Julie Savage and will be responsible for the production of surplus lines business both open brokerage and managing general agent. Her new duties will include development, underwriting and growth of commercial business, marketing and new agency appointments while maintaining a favorable loss ratio.
Bartmas brings more than 20 years of insurance experience to Orange County’s growing office. A former San Diego resident, Bartmas recently left Golden Eagle Insurance where she spent the last six years as senior underwriter. At Golden Eagle, she was the “team leader” in charge of seventeen underwriters and a support staff, while managing and underwriting a $43 million book of business. Bartmas began her insurance career at ICW (Insurance Company of the West), but has worked extensively in the wholesale industry as a wholesaler broker/underwriter at Burns & Wilcox and most recently a wholesale broker at Access E&S.
