Alabama authorities last week charged a city councilman with insurance fraud, alleging that he falsely claimed he had purchased a BMW vehicle.
Derrick Griffin, a councilman in Prichard, next to Mobile, was indicted by a grand jury in December. He had made fraudulent representations on two different occasions, and the investigation is looking into other allegations, the Mobile County prosecutor said, according to Al.com and other local news outlets.
Further details were not available. Griffin’s bond was set at $10,000.
Finding Griffin posed a challenge for law enforcement. The councilman could not be found at addresses he had listed, which posed new questions about residency requirements for his council district, according to news reports.
