The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating after burglary that swiped more than $1.6 million worth of liquor from a Tampa-area warehouse.
The theft happened in July at the Republic National Distributing Co. warehouse in Gibsonton, Florida, and was caught on surveillance video, according to multiple news reports. But it made headlines only this week after CNN obtained a copy of a search warrant for an iPhone that authorities said may be linked to the brazen heist.
The thieves reportedly used three tractor-trailers and removed some 4,277 cases of alcoholic beverages. Warehouse video was tampered with, but investigators were able to use footage from a nearby convenience store to identify the trailers used in the operation, the VinePair industry news site .
Officials at Republic National, one of the largest beverage distributors in the country, declined to comment.
