A North Carolina insurance agent has been charged with fraud after allegedly backdating an auto policy, to show that a friend was covered at the time of an accident.
The North Carolina Department of Insurance reported this week that motorist Ryan Frye was involved in an accident in June. He did not have insurance on the vehicle.
Minutes after the accident, Kaci Ferrell, a licensed agent in Hillsborough, added Frye’s vehicle to her own policy, and presented it to law enforcement as proof that the car was covered, Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey said in a news release.
He described Frye and Ferrell as “a couple.”
After department investigators looked into the situation, Frye and Ferrell were arrested Aug. 7. They are due in court Aug. 28.
The National Association of Insurance Commissioners license lookup site shows that Ferrell’s license is active through 2024. She is a property/casualty producer for Integon insurance companies and for Progressive.
