Storms across the South, part of a front that swept through the country this week, damaged homes, cars, a manufacturing plant and power lines in Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky and South Carolina.
News outlets that possible tornados in Montgomery County, Alabama, had ripped through several houses, flipped automobiles and knocked out electrical power. Flooding also was reported in Kentucky, Mississippi and Alabama, the Weather Channel noted.
In Bourbon County, Kentucky, crews made three rescues, including one for a school bus with eight children that was trapped by rising floodwaters, the New York Times reported. A deputy sheriff in Harrison County had to abandon his cruiser after it was caught in rapidly rising waters.
In Aiken County, South Carolina, a building collapsed. One person was injured and a roof was ripped from a home in Sandersville, Georgia. Local TV news stations reported damage in Washington County, including a roof was pulled off of an pipe-manufacturing plant.
