An Alabama woman who claimed in a lawsuit that she was cyberbullied has been awarded $10,000 in damages.
The Tuscaloosa News reports Victoria Love was awarded the money Oct. 23 by a Tuscaloosa County jury in her suit against Tim Bailey and Laurie Beth Kesterson.
Love claimed Bailey and Kesterson made libelous social media posts intimidating her and causing mental distress that required medical treatment. The posts were on a Facebook group Bailey created about his 24-year-old son Adam’s death in 2016 after he was given Xanax and became ill.
Bailey’s attorney Leroy Maxwell says the posts were justified because Bailey believes Love and others covered up circumstances surrounding Adam’s death.
Maxwell and Kesterson’s attorney, Stuart Albea, say the damages show there’s validity to their clients’ defense as Love sought $1 million in damages.
