The North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles has suspended the printing of new driver’s licenses after people noticed errors on new cards.
The News & Observer reports the DMV has asked contractor IDEMIA to stop printing and issuing licenses until the cause of the errors is determined. DMV spokeswoman Patrice Bethea says it’s unclear how long the suspension will last.
A Friday statement by the agency says IDEMIA thinks the flaws may be limited to a single batch sent to people under 21 years old. The DMV learned of the problem Wednesday when people began reporting the errors. The DMV has asked IDEMIA to issue corrected licenses to those who received faulty ones.
IDEMIA has produced the state’s ID cards and driver’s licenses since 2015.
