A Mississippi woman is making a federal case out of a life-threatening bout with salmonella that she blames on Goldfish crackers.

The Clarion Ledger reported Friday that 26-year-old Bailey Finch is accusing Pepperidge Farm and one of its manufacturers of negligence for allegedly allowing contaminated whey powder into the crackers. She wants compensatory and punitive damages for medical costs and pain.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued a recall last month for some flavors of Goldfish, saying they may have been contaminated. But Finch says the recall came too late to prevent her illness.

Pepperidge Farm says on its website that no illnesses have been reported related to the salmonella scare. It says consumers should discard the crackers subject to recall or return them for a refund.
