South Carolina’s interstates are ranked among the deadliest in the nation, according to a recent report from TRIP, a transportation research organization based in Washington, D.C.
The report released last week found that South Carolina’s interstate fatality rate is the sixth-highest in the U.S.
During 2014, there were .82 fatalities for every 100 million miles traveled on interstates in South Carolina. New Mexico has the highest rate of 1.26 fatalities for every 100 million vehicle miles.
The report finds the nation’s interstates are facing increasing levels of congestion because of more traffic.
