Alabama’s fire marshal has shut down a volunteer fire department’s Halloween attraction citing safety concerns.
State Fire Marshal Ed Paulk says the “Maze of Terror” operated by the Titus Volunteer Fire Department in Elmore County had multiple safety problems.
The attraction drew big crowds for more than a decade and was voted one of Alabama’s best haunted houses. But Paulk says there were no safety features as required by fire codes, and he calls the haunted house “very dangerous.”
WSFA-TV reports Titus Fire Chief Wayne Moore isn’t commenting on the shutdown, which could be reversed if enough improvements are made. He says the maze provides about half of his department’s annual income.
The haunted house was in its 14th year. It helps fund maintenance and insurance on fire trucks.
