Georgia Insurance Commissioner Ralph Hudgens announced that a Bibb County Grand Jury indicted Roswell chiropractor Victor L. Dees for 12 counts of insurance fraud based off an investigation conducted by the Department of Insurance’s Fraud division.
Subsequent to the indictment, a bench warrant was issued for Dees, 49, on June 16, according to the Georgia Department of Insurance. Fraud enforcement officers allowed Dees to turn himself in out of respect to pre-arranged medical commitments to his patients.
An investigation led by Hudgens’ office found that Dees submitted fraudulent bills to insurance companies for patient treatment that did not occur, GDOI said. The estimated total of the falsified bills was $19,100.
“Actions like Dr. Dees’ not only raise insurance premiums, they damage the trust consumers place in medical professionals,” Hudgens said.
Insurance fraud is a felony that carries a penalty of two to ten years in prison, a fine up to $10,000, or, potentially, both.
