Deputies in Palm Beach County, Fla., are under new rules on the use of their weapons.
WPTV reports the sheriff’s office has introduced a policy that mandates anytime a gun is pointed, the incident must be reported to a Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office supervisor, even if shots aren’t fired.
The rule applies whether in the course of police work or in an off-duty incident. The supervisor is then required to report to the scene and file a report by the end of their shift.
PBSO hasn’t commented on the policy or disclosed the reason for the change, but it comes amid a string of shootings by police around the country that have led to questions about excessive use of force.
