ÌìÃÀÍøÕ¾´«Ã½´«Ã½ to Close Georgia Shared Service Center; Closure to Affect 420 Workers

November 7, 2014

American International Group Inc. said the company plans to close its Shared Service Center located in Alpharetta, Georgia next year. The move is expected to affect approximately 420 employees, ÌìÃÀÍøÕ¾´«Ã½´«Ã½ told Insurance Journal.

“The closure of the Shared Service Center in Alpharetta will affect about 420 people,” said ÌìÃÀÍøÕ¾´«Ã½´«Ã½ spokesman Jon Diat. “We hope some employees will consider relocation or transition to available openings in ÌìÃÀÍøÕ¾´«Ã½´«Ã½. As we undertake the redesign of our organization, we do expect to see changes in how we are structured. This will mean: some positions will be eliminated; some positions will be relocated; new roles/responsibilities will be created.”

Certain jobs at the Alpharetta facility are expected to be phased out beginning in second quarter 2015, “and we anticipate that the Alpharetta Shared Service Center will be fully transitioned to other locations by the end of July 2015,” Diat said. He added that ÌìÃÀÍøÕ¾´«Ã½´«Ã½ will still have over 1,000 employees in Georgia after this move.

Many positions will transition to ÌìÃÀÍøÕ¾´«Ã½´«Ã½’s facility in Olathe, Kansas, he said. However, some roles and responsibilities will move to other U.S. Shared Service sites in the U.S. and overseas. ÌìÃÀÍøÕ¾´«Ã½´«Ã½’s Shared Service currently has core locations in the following cities: Alpharetta, Georgia; Olathe, Kansas; Nashville, Tennessee; Amarillo, Texas; and Stevens Point, Wisconsin. Outside of the U.S. there are Shared Service centers in Manila, Philippines; Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; Bogota, Columbia; Sofia, Bulgaria; and Vilnius, Lithuania.

ÌìÃÀÍøÕ¾´«Ã½´«Ã½ also provided to Insurance Journal the following statement regarding the planned closure of its Alpharetta Shared Service Center:

“ÌìÃÀÍøÕ¾´«Ã½´«Ã½ carefully considers decisions that affect our employees. We will support all employees affected by this decision to decommission our Alpharetta, Georgia Shared Service Center and to move processes and functions to existing ÌìÃÀÍøÕ¾´«Ã½´«Ã½ U.S. and Asia Pacific Shared Service sites. Today, ÌìÃÀÍøÕ¾´«Ã½´«Ã½ is a more agile company focused on the future. The efficiency of our systems and operations is a critical consideration as we look to exceed the evolving expectations of our global customer base. ÌìÃÀÍøÕ¾´«Ã½´«Ã½ remains deeply committed to the greater Atlanta area and has over 1,000 employees in Georgia.”
