Alabama has received a federal grant of nearly $636,000 to help homeowners in the state’s two coastal counties retrofit their homes against wind damage.
State officials and officials from Mobile and Baldwin County announced the grant last Friday in Mobile. The home mitigation grant is from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
FEMA’s program will pay part of the cost of roof sealing, roof deck attachment and impact-resistant opening protection. The grant provides more than $432,000 to Baldwin County and nearly $204,000 to Mobile County.
Officials say the residents of Mobile and Baldwin counties who are interested in the grants should contact the Alabama Department of Insurance. Applications will be available online Oct. 28.
