A business in Hickory reports thousands of dollars were taken after a hacker got into a computer system.
The Hickory Daily Record reported that First Security Insurance said that a substantial amount of money had been electronically wired from one of its business accounts without permission.
Police Investigator Dustin Nowatka said sometime between Nov. 20 and Nov. 28 the money was wired to a Chinese bank office in New York City.
Police think the hackers apparently gained access to the company’s account and routing numbers and were able to transfer the money out of the account.
No arrests have been made.
