Medical professional liability insurance company MAG Mutual Insurance Co. in Atlanta has named cardiologist Joseph S. Wilson Jr., M.D. as chairman and chief executive officer.
Wilson moves from serving patients to serving more than 17,000 physician policyholders across the Southeast.
Wilson holds an economics degree from Vanderbilt University, as well as a medical degree from Emory University, which he applied to his practice for more than three decades. He joined the MAG Mutual Board in 1999 and also served as governor of the American College of Cardiology and president of the organization’s Georgia chapter.
Wilson replaces Roy W. Vandiver, M.D., who retired recently and served as MAG Mutual’s chairman since 1999.
The company sells malpractice insurance in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.
