North Carolina’s transportation secretary said more than 12,000 drivers and passengers were cited for seat belt and child passenger safety violations during a two-week campaign in North Carolina.
Transportation Secretary Gene Conti said the citations were issued during the “Click It or Ticket” campaign that began May 23 and ended June 5. In addition, more than 2,000 motorists were charged with driving while impaired. Officers also issued more than 7,200 criminal violations for drugs, stolen vehicles and captured fugitives.
The tickets were issued at more than 6,700 checkpoints and stepped-up patrols.
The N.C. Governor’s Highway Safety Program administers the “Click It or Ticket” program.
