A pair of Durham, North Carolina sisters has been arrested for alleged insurance fraud, according to Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin.
Evelyn Lee Navarro, 31, has been charged with one count of embezzlement by an insurance agent. Sophia Georgette Navarro, 25, has been charged with one count of embezzlement.
Department of Insurance criminal investigators allege that between July 17, 2008, and June 26, 2009, Evelyn Navarro, a licensed insurance agent, embezzled $10,274.27 while employed by Protective Agency, Inc.
Investigators claim her sister Sophia, who was also an employee at the agency, embezzled $8,603.90 between Oct. 17, 2008, and June 26, 2009.
Protective Agency made whole any customer policies that were affected., according to officials.
Evelyn and Sophia Navarro were arrested on Oct. 14 and processed at the Durham County Detention Center.
