The state has announced more than $14.9 million in highway safety grants to 291 agencies across Tennessee.
The grants help fund speed enforcement, first responder equipment purchases, drunken driving prosecutors and child passenger safety training.
Gov. Phil Bredesen said in a news release that the funds will help make roadways safer.
The grants were awarded to agencies that applied based on a defined problem and statistical need. The applications were scored by the Governor’s Highway Safety Office and external highway safety advocates.
