A Florida appeals court has reversed a $12 million verdict against a Miami archdiocesan high school previously found liable for the injuries of a student who survived a drunken driving crash.
Archbishop Coleman F. Carroll High School students Gabriel Maynoldi and Michael Sanchez-Agramonte crashed their car into a tree after attending an unsupervised, off-campus beer party in 2001.
Sanchez-Agramonte was killed and Maynoldi left with severe brain damage.
In 2008, a Miami-Dade jury found the school partially responsible for allegedly promoting the party.
The Third District Court of Appeal in Miami overturned the lower court decision on Wednesday, ruling the school and archdiocese were not liable.
