Coastal insurance bills face a test in the Alabama Legislature.
The House and Senate Banking and Insurance committees met in joint session on Wednesday to take up legislation aimed at providing relief to homeowners along the coast. The meeting was in the chamber of the Alabama House.
Sen. Ben Brooks of Mobile, a sponsor of the bills, says this could be one of the best chances for citizens concerned about this issue to speak up.
Coastal lawmakers have introduced at least eight bills in the House and the Senate to address loss of hurricane coverage.
Sen. Roger Bedford of Russellville says he’s concerned the bills could end up raising insurance costs throughout the state while only benefiting Mobile and Baldwin counties.
