The former West Virginia doctor at the center of scores of malpractice lawsuits in Putnam County can no longer practice medicine in his native state.
The Alabama Medical Licensure Commission revoked John King’s license following complaints from several former patients there. One spent 26 hours in a coma.
The former Putnam General Hospital hired King as a surgeon in 2002. His six months there triggered more than 100 lawsuits alleging he had misdiagnosed, harmed and even killed patients.
King surrendered his license in West Virginia and left the state in 2003. He has since filed for bankruptcy, while the Putnam County lawsuits have resulted in at least $13 million in settlements.
