South Carolina congressman Henry Brown says his constituents have spoken and he has listened.
The Charleston Post and Courier reports Brown has killed a bill to allow a section of Kiawah Island to qualify for federal money for roads, flood insurance and beach renourishment.
Brown had introduced a bill to remove a 20-acre spit of land where a developer is planning dozens of homes from the Coastal Barrier Resources System.
Land in the system doesn’t qualify for things like federal flood insurance.
Later, Brown’s office was flooded by calls from constituents objecting to the bill and Brown killed the measure.
Even without the bill, the developer plans to continue with the project.
