The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is proposing fines of $193,000 for 54 violations of federal safety laws at two Howard Industries locations in Laurel, Mississippi.
OSHA officials cited the electrical power products manufacturer for failing to provide protective equipment and machine guards along with other serious violations. A news release says OSHA inspectors found 36 serious violations at the company’s Pendorf Road plant and 15 more at its Eastview plant.
OSHA Jackson area office director Clyde Payne called the company’s unwillingness to provide a safe environment for workers “unconscionable” in light of previous amputations at the facilities.
Howard Industries has 15 business days to contest the citations and proposed penalties.
