A former Tennessee Farmers Mutual Insurance Co., employee accused of stealing $2.4 million pleaded guilty in federal court in Greeneville, Tenn.
Court records show Mickey R. Kendrick pleaded guilty to one count of embezzlement by an agent or employee of an insurance business affecting interstate commerce.
He faces up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000 when he is sentenced May 19.
Tennessee Farmers Mutual Insurance Co. employed Kendrick from 1983 until he was fired in 2006. He worked at the district claims office in the Greene County community of Chuckey.
Kendrick was authorized to write checks to pay claims. Federal officials allege from 2000-2006 he issued nearly 400 checks for fictitious payments on claim files to embezzle funds from the company.
