With 99.9 percent of Kentucky’s precincts completed Democrat Steve Beshear will lead Kentucky state government for the next four years.
Of the 1,055,511 votes cast so far, Beshear has garnered nearly 620,000 with five precincts remaining as of this morning.
Beshear says he wants more Kentuckians to have health insurance and would use funding from casinos – one of his agenda items – to help pay for it. He said he would stem the tide of rising health costs by investing in preventative care, controlling pharmaceutical spending and cracking down on Medicaid fraud and abuse.
Republican incumbent Gov. Ernie Fletcher has been in office for one four-year term.
