A former Lafayette County, Miss. supervisor has been indicted for accepting payments from a county-paid employee health insurance contract.

Former Supervisor Gary Massey of Oxford and insurance agent Ken Nowlin of Ecru were named in an indictment made public Thursday.

U.S. Attorney Jim M. Greenlee said Massey and Nowlin are named in a 41-count indictment that charges them with conspiracy, public corruption and money laundering.

Greenlee said the indictment alleges that from 1996 to mid-2004, Nowlin paid monthly commissions to Massey from funds collected for the Lafayette County Employee Health Care Contract.

Greenlee said Massey was paid more than $235,000 by Nowlin during the period covered in the indictment. Greenlee said Massey and Nowlin are also accused of making efforts to disguise and conceal the payments.
