Firefighters have completely contained a fire in the southern part of Tennessee’s Great Smoky Mountains National Park after it burned 970 acres, park officials announced Monday.
Most of the firefighters were allowed to leave the scene near the Abrams Creek campground in Blount County.
Park officials warned some dead trees were still burning and were a danger to fall.
The “Buck Shank Fire” was first reported May 20 and quickly grew because of the dry conditions.
No structures were threatened and no injuries were reported.
A group of 13 fires in the Ocoee and Tellico Ranger Districts of the Cherokee National Forest also was reported as 100 percent contained. The burned area covered 518 acres.
