A former Central City, Ky. councilman will spend the next 15 months in prison after being sentenced on federal fraud charges.
Danny W. Miller received the sentence on Monday after pleading guilty in U-S District Court last September. Miller admitted to conning the federal government out of workers’ compensation benefits over a four-year period.
Miller resigned from the city council following his guilty plea.
Miller’s guilty plea meant he avoided the maximum sentence of 40 years. He is also required to pay back more than $107,000 in restitution.
Miller admitted that he told the U-S. Department of Labor that he was not employed from 2000 to 2004. But during that time, he was running Miller’s Independent Safety, a consulting business.
Miller was elected to the Central City Council in 2002.
