A request by the Erie Insurance Group for a 3.1 percent decrease in its private passenger automobile insurance rates has been approved by the West Virginia Insurance Commission. The new rates go into effect August 1.
The approval comes after Erie Insurance submitted a rate-filing request last month to Governor Joe Manchin and the West Virginia Insurance Commission. Erie Insurance has a network of more than 7,200 independent agents in 11 states and the District of Columbia.
Erie Insurance is the third company to approach the Insurance Commission with a rate decrease since the recent passage of insurance and civil justice reforms by the West Virginia Legislature. The commission has recently approved similar requests from Westfield Insurance and State Farm Insurance.
