Memphis, Tenn.-based Baptist Memorial Health Care recently created a malpractice financial assistance program designed to offset extraordinary premium increases some physicians are facing in Mississippi.
Because the St. Paul Cos. and Reciprocal of America, or Doctors Insurance Reciprocal, have stopped offering insurance coverage to physicians in Mississippi, many will be subject to huge premium increases when they purchase insurance from other companies. Baptist’s program will provide financial assistance to these physicians for the difference between what they have been paying for insurance during the past few years and what they will have to pay with their new insurance companies.
In Mississippi, Baptist operates five hospitals with more than 950 licensed beds. Hospitals in Columbus, Oxford, New Albany, Booneville and Southaven offer a variety of services, including 24-hour emergency care.
