The Florida Department of Financial Services revoked the insurance licenses of a husband-and-wife insurance agent team, following charges that they sold worthless insurance.
Investigators with the Bureau of Agent and Agency Investigation say Fred James Magiera and Claudine Diane Magiera, both nonresident agents, were actually operating from 7100-39 Fairway Drive, #225C, Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. The Magieras sold health coverage being offered by Nevada-based Employer’s Mutual, a company not authorized to sell insurance in Florida, to at least nine consumers in early 2001.
Employer’s Mutual was ordered by the Department to cease operations in Florida in August of 2001.Employer’s Mutual has also been placed under the control of a Federal Court-appointed independent fiduciary.
A Deerfield Beach couple incurred more than $250,000 in unpaid medical bills after having purchased health coverage from the Magieras. In Greenacres, another couple was left with $30,000 in medical debt.
