A Louisiana man was arrested June 8 on fraud charges of selling $39,000 in fake insurance policies.
The Louisiana State Police Insurance Fraud and Auto Theft (IFAT) Unit announced the arrest of 47-year-old Trampus Wagoner of Baton Rouge, who allegedly engaged in fraudulent activities by accepting insurance premiums from customers without securing insurance policies on their behalf.
In January 2022, the IFAT Unit received a criminal complaint from the Louisiana Department of Insurance (LDI).
A State Police investigation determined that Wagoner accepted premiums from numerous customers and never secured insurance policies on their behalf. As a result of Wagoner’s actions, victims were defrauded out of over $39,000.
Wagoner was arrested for violating L.R.S. 14: 67 Theft (9 counts), 22:1562 Prohibited Actions and Sanctions – Insurance Producers (9 counts) and 14:72.1.1 Forgery of a Certificate of Insurance (8 counts). Wagoner was booked at East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
The LDI issued a cease and desist order for Wagoner in January, alleging the former Armor Insurance producer and owner accepted premium payments from three clients between March to May 2021 but failed to remit their premiums.
