Violent spring storms packing high winds and large hailstones in Texas and Oklahoma on April 28 likely caused $3.5 billion in damage, according to Accuweather.com.
Additionally, the National Weather Service confirmed an EF-1 Tornado was included within a wide swath of wind damage that spanned all of Medina County, Texas, along Highway 90. The tornado impacted homes and other structures on either side of Highway 173, the NWS Austin/San Antonio reported in a Twitter post.
The Washington Post reported that baseball- to softball-sized hail caused considerable damage in and near Fort Worth and San Antonio, Texas, as well as in the Oklahoma City area.
Accuweather reported that “hailstones rivaled the size of grapefruits, reaching roughly 4 inches in diameter” in Hondo, Texas, near San Antonio. “Hail ranged from the size of golf balls to baseballs” in Norman, Oklahoma, according to Accuweather.
