A minor earthquake early on March 30 shook Northwest Louisiana, the U.S. Geological Survey and the U.S. Department of the Interior confirmed.
A 3.0 magnitude earthquake struck near the Blanchard area, northwest of Shreveport, in Caddo Parish about 2:30 a.m., multiple news outlets reported.
According to the reports, there was very little to no shaking. No damage or injuries were reported.
The USGS said the quake was about five kilometers underground, but could be felt by some residents. Marylou Lindle lives in a double-wide mobile home in a subdivision in Blanchard. She told KTBS-TV that when the quake struck, she thought someone was breaking into her home.
The earth moving was felt within a six-square kilometer area around Blanchard and just north of Cross Lake. While earthquakes have grown more common in Texas and Oklahoma, they have been rare in northwest Louisiana, officials said.
A 3.0 magnitude earthquake is considered weak by the USGS.
