Louisiana’s Small Business Protection Act (SBPA), passed in the 2019 Legislative Session and effective as of Feb. 1, aims to help make small business owners aware of proposed regulations that could negatively impact their business entities, according to Secretary of State Kyle Ardoin.
According to recent government data, Louisiana small businesses are responsible for employing nearly one million state residents and account for 99.5% of all Louisiana businesses.
Under the SBPA, the Secretary of State’s office has created a database of both current and proposed rules and regulations. This will allow businesses to provide input before regulations take effect, rather than forcing businesses to react to regulations.
The Small Business Protection Act took effect on Feb.1, the database is live now. Businesses can register for updates and view the database at smallbiz.sos.la.gov.
