At least one insurer in Texas has filed to add an endorsement to the homeowners policy that would require mandatory mediation-arbitration in claim disputes.
The endorsement would be attached to a homeowners policy at the policyholder’s option, with a premium discount.
Texas Commissioner David Mattax has scheduled a public meeting on the proposal and will receive written and oral comments relating to these types of endorsements. The hearing for Docket No. 2788 will be held on July 6 beginning at 9:30 a.m. in Austin.
The hearing announcement issued by the Texas Department of Insurance included an example endorsement filed by Texas Farm Bureau Insurance (see below).
Those wishing to provide written comments, should provide two copies no later than 5 p.m., Central time, July 6, 2016.
