A San Antonio-based deputy U.S. marshal has pleaded guilty to wire fraud relating to an insurance fraud scheme.
According to a statement from the U.S. Attorney’s office, Reynaldo Gonzalez entered his plea in San Antonio. He admitted that he filed a fraudulent claim for medical treatment of various fictitious injuries and using a physician’s signature and tax identification number without the doctor’s knowledge.
The insurer then sent several benefit checks to Gonzalez.
The 38-year-old deputy is now on administrative leave. U.S. District Judge Micaela Alvarez could sentence him to up to $20 years in federal prison and fine him up to $250,000 at sentencing April 23. Meantime, he remains free on bond.
